Algorithms are neither good or bad it’s how they are used that makes a difference
His research confirmed what I felt about the way algorithms are used to gather data on our human behaviours which can then be used for commercial and marketing purposes
Most interesting is the impact the algorithms seem to be having on culture, I see it everyday - on platforms like Spotify, in film, TV, retail, fashion the consumer industry and I am conflicted as it also has had profound and negative effects on the creative world which I am part of. It also effects me through my work in creative education - I see the impact in students’ ideas and choices - mainly where they show me where their ideas have come from (don’t get me started on corsets)
Algorithms are sold to us as a way to make things convenient
Note to self: explore the relationship between AI and algorithms
On demand - re-makes of everything no room for newness or unexpected ideas because they are a risk to revenue
What ever happened to risk taking and embracing serendipity!
